Tucked between Lake Dora and Lake Eustis, this breathtaking waterway has been called “The Most Beautiful Mile of waterway in the world.” Lined with towering cypress trees draped in Spanish moss, teeming with wildlife, and rich in Old Florida charm, the Dora Canal is a must-visit for kayakers and paddleboarders seeking a peaceful, nature-filled adventure.
On this trip we will take you through the Dora canal into the town of Mount Dora where you can have a little bit of the Key West feel going through craft shops and local restaurants.
The History & Legacy of the Dora Canal
The Dora Canal isn’t just a natural wonder—it’s a historic passage that once served as a key transportation route for steamboats traveling through Central Florida. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, this waterway connected settlers and tourists to the bustling steamboat industry, bringing people and goods between Lake Dora, Lake Eustis, and beyond. Today, while the steamboats are long gone, the canal remains a window into Florida’s past, with its towering trees and untouched landscapes preserving the beauty of Old Florida.

What To Bring
Having everything you need can make all the difference between a fun escape and a flop. Here are some important things to bring:
- Alligator Repellant (or beer)
- Sunscreen and polarized sunglasses
- Breathable clothes
- Comfortable shoes or flip-flops for walking in town
- Damn fine hat!
- Light sweater or jacket (your call )
- ID
- If you would like to bring your own food and drinks along we will have cooler space available.
- Extra cash for the Mount Dora restaurants and to tip the boat’s team!

Mt Dora Public Dock if the pickup location you are coming from is East of Mount Dora then go into town: Address: 700 W 4th Ave, Mt Dora, FL 32757
- Directions to Mt Dora Public Dock
- Find a parking spot, call me (863-984-4000) and meet us at the dock.
- We will just do a reverse trip, go through the Dora canal, Cruise the lakes and come back to town!
